The Chessmen of Doom

For all of you mystery readers out there...The Chessmen of Doom by John Bellairs is a great book!

Professor Childermass's brother has recently died. His will states that he wants his brother to inherit ten million dollars from him... on one condition. He wants the professor to stay at his estate in Maine for the whole Summer. This stumps the professor, but he decides to go anyway.

Jonny and Fergie, who are best friends, hear about the professor's trip and decide to tag along. There is one thing that the professor is really confused about. A letter had come in the mail from P. Childermass (his brother) that included a riddle...

"Why a dead eye in a room with no view?
Why pallid dwarves on a board that's not true?
To pull the hairy stars from their nest
And give sinful humans a well-deserved test."

Once they arrive at the estate they find out that they will have to solve the mysterious riddle fast before it's too late! What is all of this about?.... well you'll just have to read the book and find out!

"A fast-paced, exciting story."
